A Father That Just Came In from Hunting

Her husband strolled into the small, but cosy living room. He'd just returned from hunting and he set down his rifle by the door and kicked off his boots. His wife closed the door and he kissed her on both cheeks. "Well isn't somebody going to welcome me home?" he asked with mock indignation.

"Honey we have a bit of an issue," his wife said.

"What is it Julia? Jearis hurt another elf boy?"

"No daddy," Jearis spoke up. "I found a baby look!"

"Harry, somebody left it by the door and Jearis found him."

Harry gestured Jearis to let him see. The baby had blue eyes, as all babies do, and soft rounded features and skin. The baby was a boy he confirmed, and seemed quite nice as he played with Jearis' finger and giggled. "Well it's their loss then isn't it?" Harry said at last. "I've always thought it'd be nice to have another kid around the house. The more hands the better eh?" He sat down in the armchair that was clearly designated for him and put his feet by the fire.

Jearis cheered at the news the baby was staying for real. "Can he share my room?" he asked.

"He's your brother, what do you think?" Julia said, speaking up for the first time.

"Yes!?" Jearis nearly cried. His mother nodded and he nearly dropped his brother in his excitement. The five-year old rushed upstairs to his room and put the baby on his bed while he looked for his old crib. When he'd dragged the parts of that into his room he turned to the baby and smiled. "You don't have a name yet do you?" he said, more to himself than his brother. "I think it should be... Kirlan. What do you think?" His brother giggled and he smiled. "Kirlan it is then."
