Encased in steel, without light, without sound, you felt the elevator slowly descend...
Scarcely, the feeling of descent faded away and you knew that you had arrived. Lights flared on above you, trying to blind you. Covering your eyes, you heard the sound of the elevator doors opening. The lights dimmed and you cautiously lifted your hand, the side pressed against your brow.
"It has been quite a while since last we spoke hasn't it Tom?"
You entered the room, a jewel of the criminal underground, a large room covered in teak planks and decorated with golden artifacts, smuggled from overseas. Like the Blood Diamonds of Africa, many had died so that wealthy men like this one could admire them. Prestige rivaled Family in this underground world.
"I killed Tom a long," You said shallowly.
"Oh, I know, but you stole everything from him. His life, his past, his future... why, you even took his face. If you want to be Black Zeus, you really ought to put on a mask."
"I'm not a crook,"
"Maybe, maybe not. Either way, you'd never admit to it would you. Please, please, don't just stand around, take a seat. I pay a great sum of money on the furniture here so that others, less fortunate, can enjoy the experience of what you can achieve by doing a good job."
You took a seat in one of the three chairs facing the desk that the "Boss," sat at. Behind him were two mooks with Tommy guns aimed at you.
"You know, you were very close to advancing to the head of this organization Tom. Even without your skills, those super powers of yours would have secured a high standing position here. Then again, that wasn't good enough for you."
"Cut to the chase Vince. I'm here for information, I need one of your analysts. What you do you want in return?"
"Oh Tom, I'm hurt. We go back a long ways. My analysts are always at your disposal. I'll have a meeting set up with one of our agents. I must warn you, however, that while they are in my employ, I do not pay them to give information to others. You'll have to meet with her and see if she wants anything in return from you?"
"Her?"
"Yes. That won't be a problem for you? Will it?"
"No, not at all,"
"Afraid of the ladies Tom? I can't blame you. This one is a toughy, spent a little time in the underground as a contract killer, gave it up after she earned enough trust to information gather. The money she made was also good enough to grease the wheels of government pawns. They call her the Silver Dagger Dame, but that's another story."
"Thanks Vince. I'll be back tomorrow." Getting up to leave Vince you're set upon by two more mooks from the back of them room who grab you toss you back into the chair.
"Tom, there is just one other thing that I'd like to discuss before you leave. Yesterday, you slipped off our radar for a little while. Normally I would be unconcerned, but the signal was blocked because you were at the Titan's Tower."
"You had me bugged with a tracker?"
"A token of your former employment I'm afraid. Moving bodies isn't just work for the hitmen, it's a study for the analysts. We have to keep in touch with the rest of the family somehow... Which leads me to ask, are you still trustworthy?"
"I'd be the last person you'd want to ask that question to if you meant it."
"It will make me feel much better to hear it from your own lips."
"My bond to the Family has transcended, and still comes before, my own personal inclinations."
"Good to hear Cousin. I wish you well in your search."
