This choice: Black Zeus recovers from his injuries. Celebration ensues. • Go Back...Chapter #43A Hasty Return and Departure by: Unknown So it was, Slade had come alive with inhuman vengeance and struck several thunderous blows against you. The final attack sent you off the railing of the catwalk on which you both stood. From a height of 20 feet you fell, a sizable distance for any human. It isn't the fall that kills you however... no, just the sudden stop at the end. Or so "they" say, whoever "they" are. As luck would have it you landed on your back. Had it been your head, you might have screwed yourself into the ground. That said, your skull was aching with white hot searing pain, and that was all the pain you were capable of handling. Voices began to leak through your ears, voices of shock and concern. They started out as faint whispers but grew closer and louder.
"Zeus! Please be alright."
The words came through clearly enough to be understood; who the speaker was remained a mystery as new voices came and taxed your thinking.
"Where's Slade?"
"He's gone! Vanished into thin air,"
"Shouldn't we look for him?"
"Wait, what about Zeus? He's injured."
Excessive pain has a little tendency to bring about a semi or fully unconscious state in a person. Even while supernaturally endowed with a life spark more akin to electricity than flame, a property heretofore unexplained, you too are subject to this reduction in cognitive awareness. The extent of your vulnerabilities, is obviously not large, or you would not have roused yourself awake. Immediately you noticed the people talking: Terra, Starfire, and Raven. It took you a moment to remember where you were and why, but all that came to you as well. Then the pangs of excited nerves firing off in your head came into focus once again. Reaching up to your forehead you attempted to rub your temples but an even sharper pain shot your hands away. Looking at them, they were tinted with the reddish-orange tint of half dried blood.
"Raven," You spoke softly. The three girls knelt down next too you.
"Zeus, you are awake! Did you say something?" Starfire said with great jubilance.
"Aieeghh," Oy vey! Starfire really needs to work on her volume level. "Yeah Star, I am awake. Moreso than I'd like actually." Even the sound of your own voice hurt to listen to. Nevertheless you persisted. "Raven, could hand me your boot?"
"M-my boot?" Raven stuttered abashedly.
"Yeah, either one will do, I just need to see it for a second,"
Reluctantly Raven took off her right boot and handed it to you. Seeing her wonderfully pale feet with the black polish still on her toes let your mind escape the pain for the while until she handed her boot to you. Without bringing it to your nose you were dumbstruck by the scent.
"How long have you two been looking for me?" you queried.
"All week, nonstop!" Starfire responded in her usual manner. Your eyes glazed over...
"...Brilliant. If may need to see a doctor. I'd be indebted if you would, but my head is killing me."
With nothing else left to say you cover your nose with Raven's boot and inhale deeply through your nostrils. You close your eyes as they begin to water and quickly return to unconsciousness. Terra looked at you, and then at Raven, before saying:
"Wow. Is that why he asked for your boot Raven? And I thought I had smelly feet." Raven blushed a colour she'd not be caught dead wearing. Snatching up her boot she put it on quicker than the flash.
"Yay! I win." Starfire shouted, jumping up and down like a school girl. Raven handed Starfire a $20 bill.
"What's that?" Terra's asked curiously.
"We were going to have a contest when we found Zeus. I bet that Raven would win,"
"Haha-haha-haha!," laughed Terra "You won the contest alright! Haha-haha."
Raven couldn't handle any more embarassment, and with the black magic surrounding your body, levitated you up and away, out of the building and to the nearest hospital. Starfire flew with Terra, who laughed the entire way.
