It was a day ending like any other, and Freya had just been summoned to the royal castle. She imagined it was just another simple job. Maybe it was another monster hunt? Perhaps a simple escort mission? Freya longed for something that could truly challenge a dragon knight of her skill. However, she had no idea this job would end up being unlike anything she ever experienced in her life.
"You wished to see me, princess?"
"You do remember I am now queen."
"Yes, I remember your majesty."
How could such an important detail have slipped her mind? Princess Garnet, or rather queen Garnet had just ascended to the royal throne and succeeded her mother, queen Brahne. Garnet paid no mind to the momentary slip of the tongue and decided to get right to the point of Freya's summoning.
"I have a new mission for you, but it might require some new skills to accomplish."
This was it! Freya would get to test her skills on this mission, and see what she could really do. Ideas raced through her head, but she could not imagine what this mission could involve. She could not wait any longer.
"I will take the job! I do not care what must be done."
Freya blurted out the words without much thought. A mystery job was better than nothing. She could even learn some new skills! The queen's face lit up upon hearing Freya's obvious enthusiasm. Garnet never anticipated Freya's immediate acceptance. She thought now was as good a time as any to tell her.
"Very well, you will thus be the new stablehand at the royal Chocobo stables!"
"Thank you, your majesty, I..."
Freya nearly fainted at the sudden realization. THIS was a mission? She was a dragon knight and is now charged with doing the work of a mere commoner. Freya assumed this was all just a bad joke. This was a dream, and she would wake up any minute. Freya pinched herself but she was not dreaming. However, Garnet still wore a serious expression.
"Is there a problem, Freya?"
"No problem at all, queen Garnet. However, why not send doctor Tot instead of me. He is much more knowledgeable about these matters."
"Doctor Tot is away on urgent business, so he in unavailable at the moment. You will start your new job tomorrow morning, so get plenty of rest.
Freya bowed in respect and left the royal castle still in absolute disbelief. Perhaps her newest job would not be so bad. Freya headed to the inn to rest for the night.
