Dani exited the ladies' room in several minutes, still quite flustered and very worried. She tried to keep her head up high, but she was now child-sized at three feet tall, and her handbag looked comically large. The mall was, of course, still the same: happy people walking around, having fun, making purchases, drinking coffee, swooning over latest fashion collections and so on. For the first time in many years Dani felt lost in this world of shining lights and rustling shopping bags.
"I need to leave", she finally decided. "I can sit in my car, and call someone from there... can't drive..."
Earlier plans to try and find help in the mall have vanished. For now, people didn't seem to pay too much attention to her drastic reduction in height, but she did not want to dwindle even further in front of everyone. She's had enough embarrassment. The very thought that people would surround her like some freak of nature... and call the police... or worse, will not call the police, will simply laugh at her, make fun of her... the very thought of any of this made her skin crawl, and she did not want to stay around for long enough to find out if she was actually going to go down another foot or two.
So she half-walked half-ran, trying to keep closer to the wall, out of most people's way and sight, and it seemed to be working as she was steadily making her way towards the exit without anyone pointing fingers or stopping next to her. In fact, people really didn't seem to notice at all. This was a bit peculiar, but she did not pay this fact any mind and kept walking. The click-clacking of her own heels against the floor was unusually weak, quiet, and that unnerved her. It was still her body, but it didn't feel exactly right at the current stature.
