Before the thought even came to your head, you stood centimetres from the captain's face, briefly taking note of the massive baby's slack-jawed, thunderstruck face. All of a sudden, you could feel parchment in your hands. All of a sudden, you were gone, zipping through the forest in a frenzy of flailing arms and legs, tearing the undergrowth aside in your mad dash for freedom.
You could hear angry shouts fading behind you. It did not matter; even if the captain could rally his cohorts, their bloated bodies would not have a snowball's chance in the Sahara of catching you. But you carried on, regardless; you could not find the door that brought you to this island. A kaleidoscope of greens, yellows, browns, blues and teals, with flashes of red and purple, swirled before your eyes; you had never run so fast.
But alas, that euphoria could only last so long. You could already feel your limbs grow leaden, deprived so swiftly of their energy. Your head pounded unbearably, as if you'd been headbutted by the sharp end of a knight's helmet while a lunatic with a length of plywood struck you on the back of it. The sensation of the blisters in your feet and the rawness in your forearms came flooding into your system, and the sounds of the jungle felt deafening.
All of a sudden, you fell upon your knees; it was all you could do to not scream.
You still felt the parchment in your hands. Breathing heavily, you asked yourself why you had taken it; what could it be?
You looked around, your movements slowed to catch the sounds around you. All you could hear was the wind through the trees, and the chattering of the forest creatures. As far as you knew, the pirates were long gone...
