Chapter #5Clyde's Farm and Ranch by: TehDragon ![Author Icon](https://images.Writing.Com/imgs/writing.com/writers/costumicons/ps-icon-regular-10.gif) You've always been particularly interested in the Clydesdale horse. You admired their shear strength these horse have, and always wanted to see one pulling something big and heavy with your own eyes. So you do a little research, and find that there is a ranch only 6 hours or about 500 miles out of the town where you live, which is nonetheless in the middle of the countryside. You decide that you don't want to put all that mileage on your car, and look up train times. You buy a train ticket online at the earliest possible time.
The next morning, your get up early, get your stuff together, and head out for the only train station in town, and coincidentally, the only train station for 500 miles in any direction. You get on board, and your journey begins as soon as the train grinds forward slowly, and then quickly accelerates out of the train station.
The hours tick by, you brought a book on Clydesdale horse to pass the time, but before you know it, you have already read the 300 page book in less than 2 hours. You wait patiently as the hours, and the country side go by. You find a pencil under the seat cushion, and doodle on the last few blank pages of the book.
You're suddenly jolted awake as the train comes to a screeching halt. You look outside. Still the country side, and the sun is just about reaching it's peak. One of the workers on the train comes into your booth, "Sorry fer the inconvinience, but we're experiencin' some technical problems. Please stay calm, as we 'tempt ta fix the problem." Before the worker could leave you to yourself, you grab hold of his arm.
"Where are we?"
"We're just a mile or two from the nearst' village. But we should be at our stop in half'n'hour." the worker answered. You let go of his arm.
"Think you can have the conductor stop the train and drop me off at the village? That's my stop actually."
The worker pauses, "I'll see what I can do."
"Thanks." And the worker goes on to the next set of booths.
Five minutes later, the train is rolling again. As you look out the window, you can see telephone polls in the distance, and some barns here and there.
The worker comes in to your booth again, "If yer gonna git off here, better get yerself together, son. 'ductors not stoppin' the train, but he'll slow it down enough fer ya ta git off." You nod, and gather your things together. You follow the worker to the nearest door. You feel the trains speed reduce as it approaches the village. As it rolls through the village, the worker opens the door, and you jump down onto the grass and roll away from the moving train. You get to your feet, and brush the grass blades off of your clothes.
You turn around, and there is the 'village'. Your typical rundown country town with nothing but a gas station, a general store, and a bar as the center of the town.
An hours walk outside of the town brings you to an old dusty road, which leads you down along a fence of barbed wire. A sign is posted on the fence.
"Private Property of Clyde's Farm and Ranch. No trespassing."
"Finally," you say, "I'm here."
You jump the fence, and begin walking in to the fields where the horses grazed...or what you thought were the fields where the horses grazed.
