Chapter #3

Unplanned trip to Mesozoic

    by: Unknown
You weren’t truly recovered from your sudden transportation. Your head shook and disoriented, you crawled to find a place to rest. So, after finding a convenient ‘tree’ you lie down and put your hand on your head.

Looking around, you noticed a couple of boulders - oddly smooth and round like pebbles. Continuing examining the land with a look, you wondered what happened and where you ended. Everything here was so strange, you were in some kind of forest, the air was humid but there was no undergrowth and you couldn’t hear any birds. And even the trees were unusual, their trunks were greenish and segmented like bamboo - did you just end up somewhere in China?
You sight and look up into treetops. And then you realised something, “Wait a minute, those plants aren’t bamboo…” Ignoring that you were still a little bit dizzy, you quickly standed up, looked around and ran towards the more lighted area. “This can’t be real…” you gasped when you got on clearing and looked back. Those plants which you think were bamboo were in reality treesized horsetails. “This can’t be real!” you said again when you behold the surrounding landscape: You were surrounded by giant plants which were even bigger than the snake grass, there were ferns and bushes the size of the apartment building and on the horizon, surmounted the mountainous cycads and conifers.

Suddenly you see a silhouette of a flying creature: a giant beast with a needle-like body and long triangular wings. The shadow of that creature turned your primary instincts and, with one long jump, you hid yourself under the near fern.
“Was that a fucking pterosaur?” you whispered for yourself. You weren't sure if that thing which you just saw was an actual dinosaur, but you were so frightened to even peek from your hideout.
You tried to sum up your situation: You were only transported from your home to what seemed like Mesozoic but also shrunken to the size of the bug - which spreaded the number of ways of how you could die here.
You weren’t sure in which time period of Mesozoic you ended up. You knew that pterosaurs lived from all three time periods of the dinosaur age, but you didn’t notice the exact species so knowing this was useless.
As a huge fan of dinosaurs you knew some facts about those now not so extinct animals. Maybe being a dino geek could help you survive here? Only thing you needed was a point to picture so you could prepare for dangers which could await you there. Unfortunately the species of prehistoric flora weren’t your strong side, so you need to recognize an animal which was characteristic for this time period. But finding dinosaurs to know what other dinosaurs could be there was a double edged sword which could bring you to your demise and you knew that.
So with that in mind, you sat under the fern silently - hoping that nothing would notice you. And as the evening came so did your tiredness. So you tried to make yourself as comfortable as possible and closed your eyes.

The ground shook and rumbled. The stems of the plants crunched and crackled in the distance. You opened your eyes, confused by what was going on. Some creature was walking towards you and by the stomping it was something big.
The earthquake then stopped and before you realised: a beak came out from the sky and ripped out part of the fern you were lying under.
You looked up and saw how the part of the plant vanished inside the mouth of some dinosaur with a long head. Because you were still hidden under the rest of the plant the animal didn’t notice you and so it calmly chewed its meal - due to lack of the lips you were able to see the whole process of mastication, which felt like looking into a disposer and gave you a chill on the spine.
Then the animal closed its maw and you heard a loud gulp. You yipped in shock when the beak opened again and began to loom towards your hideout once more and jump aside into the moss in front of you. By this act you saved yourself from being devoured, as you realised when you looked behind you, watching as the most likely herbivorous dinosaur took the fern at the roots and ripped it from the ground. And soon you heard a satisfied chewing.

From your current possion you realise what such performance you just did. Because as you turned back when the beast eated your hideout you had a ‘nice’ view on the bottom of its head. As you estimated, that jump was almost 30 centimetres long - something very venerable for a guy who was 1 inch long. “Maybe it's because I’m lighter now?” you wondered.
The ground started shaking again. After eating the rest of the fern, the massive dino moved forth to feed on other plants. And you… you watched in terror as the animal’s four legs stomped the ground and the whole bottom slowly moved above you. Stunned by the view that you caught yourself staring at the behemoth even when you were passed by its hind legs. And now you were looking at the scaly behind which this dino unawarely showed you. Between the legs and approximately at the base of the tail was a single fleshy slit between two dark pillowy lips contrasting against the sandy yellow scales on the dinosaur’s underside. “So even larger dinosaurs than psittacosaurus had expressible cloacas.” you said out loud and you immediately stuffed your mouth up when you realised what you just did.
All of a sudden the giant reptile turned around, showing its left - the long, almost triangular head, with unmistakable distinctive kite-shaped upright plates along their backs made clear which species of dinosaur it was (and if you looked behind you could see the four iconic spikes on end of its tail). Now being able to recognize the species, you silently watched the stegosaurus as it was looking around in confusion.
Even when this icon of Jurassic looked featherbrainely adorable with its expression, it was still several tonne colossus at which you weren’t sure what would happen when it would notice you.
So, quietly like a mouse you started walking back. Then when you walked under the stegosaurus’s tail, you turned around and started running. The stegosaurus looked in the opposite direction and made a quick, groundshaking, turn. All of sudden you were sended into the air as a left front sole impacted next to you before you fell on the ground and your vision went dark.

Who knows how long you were knocked out, but when you woke up you felt how your whole body hurts and when you opened your eyes you got blow up by a quick blast of wind from the stegosaurus's nostrils.
The herbivorous dinosaur was watching you silently. Looking into the eyes of the titan, you saw a curious look with something that felt like a sparkle of intelligence. You stared at it back and after a while you glanced on it’s plates which were __________________, indicating that this stegosaurus was indeed a ________ .
