This choice: The triceratops stays to help • Go Back... You squirm rigorously to free yourself from under the tooth, but your attempts are futile. Just then a great shadow looms over you and you suddenly find yourself looking up at the face of the triceratops you had just assisted. With a light nudge it pushes the tooth off of your body and you gasp in air as you lungs are no longer constricted by the object's weight. While you recover the triceratops eyes you curiously.
"Thank you," you manage to say with a strained voice. The thought of talking to an animal, an extinct one at that, was among the last of your concerns right now.
"It is I who should be grateful, little human," the triceratops replies, "Had you not come along this wound would have likely infected."
The creature shows you its wound which did not look that bad, but bled slightly. A droplet of blood runs down its nose and splashes on your face. You spatter as you try to keep the stuff out of your mouth.
"My sincere apologies, my friend," the triceratops says with an embarrassed tone and leans in close, "Allow me."
Before you understand what the creature means its tongue shoots out and licks your face clean of the red substance.
"Thank you, I suppose," you say now spitting out warm saliva. Getting up on your feet, you dust your clothes off as the triceratops looks at you with what you assume is its equivalent of a human smile.
"This is quite extraordinary," it giggles, "I am actually having a conversation with a human."
"I am the one talking to a dinosaur," you reply,"You are supposed to be extinct."
The triceratops gives you a confused expression.
"What ever do you mean? It is you humans that are so rare that you might as well be considered extinct."
"I am not even from this wo...," you are about to say, but quickly cut yourself off. It just occurred to you that this creature knew what you are. That meant...
"You have seen my kind before?"
"Not me, no," the triceratops explains, "But everyone knows the stories. They say you creatures bring good fortune with you. Though accounts on your size do vary. The last human I heard of was far bigger than you, little one."
"And do you know where this other human resides?" you enquire.
"Oh, this human was killed off some time ago. Got torn to shreds by a tyrannosaurus. Almost happened to me too. Let down my guard and BAM! Had one of those ugly giants on top of me. But you do not mess with a mighty three-horn without getting hurt."
The triceratops emphasizes this by displaying a strong thrust with its great horns.
"It is a dangerous world out here. That said, where are you headed? It is quite dangerous for little creatures like you to be wandering about alone. I would be greatly honoured if you joined me for an evening meal at my home. It is not everyday one is granted the privilege to enjoy human company."
"Well, I... you see...," you mutter, looking for an excuse not to go, but none pops in your head. In all honesty, you were a bit concerned about being too close to any creature the size of a cruise ship to you. Then again, the triceratops was right about the dangers of being alone out here. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
