Darkness was pressing against Muzzle's eyes when he rose to consciousness. He tried to open his eyes, but he found them forced shut. This was puzzling. The last thing he remembered was going to sleep with everyone else. Also, his straitjacket, the thing that restrained him from attacking others, was off, but he was bound with his limbs splayed out. In addition, he felt something pushed in his mouth, thought he couldn't immediately identify it.
Muzzle, alarmed and angered by this new position, struggled fruitlessly against his bonds. As he was trying to escape, the sound of a distant door opened and he froze. There were quiet footsteps, as a whispering group drew close to the dog. Muzzle tried to hear what they wer saying, but they were effectively quiet and, when they silenced themselves, another, more pronounced sound pounded against his ears and he began to feel something going into his maw.
