Chapter #3

Lasers Phase-Her

    by: Drakin Author IconMail Icon
Colleen washed and brushed as usual and donned the 'casual' Rovers uniform of black pants and boots with a green T-shirt. Just as she was about to leave her quarters though, a message came over the intercom which she promptly answered.

"Colleen here," she replied in her usual British accent, "What's up?"

"Colleen?" Came the male voice over the com, "This is Roger down in the tech lab. We've got a small situation down here." A crackling explosion came over the intercom, "Actually make that a large problem. One of our expariments has gone nuts and we need someone to get down here and stop it."

"I'm on my way."

Just a minute later Colleen arrived at the lab and promptly had to duck as a large blast of energy short over her head. In the center of the room a large laser cannon type device was spinning crazily, firing randomly in any direction it could spin. Ducking behind a nearby table, Colleen found the tech she's spoken to, Roger, a Whippet canine.

"What is that thing?" Colleen asked as she tried to make sense of the machines spasms.

"Suffice it to say, it's a device that radiates a new type of energy we recently discovered," Roger replied, "As you can see, we needed someone with your agility to get past it and pull the plug." Roger indicated the far side of the machine where a large black plud lead from the machine to a wall outlet. "Please just pull it if you can, that machine is the result of almost a decade of research."

"Don't get your pocket protector in a pinch," Coleen smiled, "I can handle it."

Colleen watched the machines movements for a moment and noted how fast it took to discharge and it's rotation speed. While the shots seemed random, there was a shifting pattern she was able to descern. After getting it down, Colleen lept from behind the desk, spinning through the air, and landing in a temporarily safe spot. From there the dance of danger was on as she spun, twisted and dove through the beams towards the plug.

Finally she reached it and pulled as hard as she could, but it took a moment longer than anticipated and right as the plug came free, the final discharge from the gun caught Colleen full in the backside and she feel to the ground, a wisp of smoke curling from her prone body while inside her something began to change.
