Hansel and Gretel were licking their fingers after their latest feast. The witch strode in to check on their progress. "Mmm, oh my," she giggled as she prodded Gretel's belly, "what a nice and delicious looking morsel you're turning out to be."
"What do you mean?" Gretel asked worriedly. Something didn't sound right about that at all.
"Oh, dear me, did I say that out loud?" the witch mocked. They couldn't get up anyway. She had them. Now she got to enjoy her fun. "Why, my dear children, did you never once suspect why I fed you so much, how all you did was eat and sleep, how fat you've become? None of that made you worry?"
They were worried now. "What is happening?" Gretel whimpered.
She went to inspecting Hansel next, kneading his fat arms. "Oh, such simple minded children. I intend to eat you, my dears."
If they could even sit up, they would have bolted upright. "But, but..." they stammered.
She wagged a finger at them. "It's too late for that," she said. "You are indeed quite trapped by your own gluttony. There is nothing you can do about it now. And the best part is, I intend to do this for another five months until my coven holds their annual feast. Why, you may be so fat, I'd even have leftovers by then." She cackled at the thought.
"We'll do anything," Hansel begged. "Anything if you don't eat us."
"Fat chance," the witch said, laughing at her own pun. "You're completely helpless now, and there's nothing you can do about it. Now, what do you say to a little dessert?"
A cart, laden with treats magically wheeled its way into the room. She intended to stuff them everyday until their stomachs were hard as boulders, which was about as big as they were now. "We can refuse to eat," Gretel said sternly. "You won't get much out of us then."
The witch jabbed her finger deep into Gretel's sides. "Oh, I think I could get a good meal out of you now if I so desired. And I don't think refusing to eat would be such a good idea. You won't like what you get then. Now then, hungry?"
The two siblings looked at each other, pain and desperation in their eyes. They solemnly nodded, and ate what the witch put in front of them. The witch, however, was still thinking on their offer. "Hm, anything you said," she mused aloud. "Tell you what, in five months time, I will only eat one of you, the fattest of course. Chew on that." She laughed menacingly as she skipped out, the two of them too full to really think straight.
