Once upon a time, in the 14th century, King Stefan and Queen Leah had a newborn daughter named Aurora. When she will be older, she would marry Prince Phillip, King Hubert's son. At her christening, the good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather arrive to bless her. Flora gives her the gift of beauty while Fauna gives her the gift of song. But before Merryweather could give her blessing, Maleficent appears on the scene, expressing disappointment in not being invited to Aurora's christening ceremony and curses the princess to die when she touches a spinning wheel's spindle before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. Fortunately, Merryweather's blessing weakens the curse so that instead of dying, Aurora, would only fall deeply asleep until she receives a true love's kiss. Though King Stefan decreed all spinning wheels in the kingdom burned, the three good fairies knew Maleficent couldn't be stopped that easily and took Aurora away to a woodland cottage until her sixteen birthday lapses, passing themselves off as her aunts and swearing off magic to conceal themselves.
Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, being the doting godmothers that they were, had a tendency to spoil Aurora, renamed Briar Rose, with delicious sweet and fattening food. As it turned out, our princess had quite the appetite, and became a chubby little girl. This worried the fairies :
"What will her parents say, when they finally get their daughter back and she's... fat?!", exclaimed Fauna, one night after Briar Rose was off to bed.
"Oh don't worry Fauna, with the gift of beauty I gave her, she will always be the most beautiful princess, no matter her size!", replied Flora.
"I don't see how her size is a problem!", said Merryweather, being the plumpest of the three fairies.
"You're right, I think it's quite a good disguise for her as of right now. Who would suspect her to be the daughter of our rail thin king and queen? But on the day she'll get back to her parent, I'll cast a spell on her so she'll loose all the weight she gained because of us!", concluded Fauna, and her sisters agreed.
