Your eyes open slowly. A black blur comes into view, and your eyelids snap open. A dragon head is hovering in the middle of your vision. You yelp and back away furiously until you can back away no more, up against the wall and still too weak to cast any magic. You prepare to meet death as the dragon lumbers up toward you. Your eyes close tightly and you hold your breath. Nothing happens.
You open your eyes again and see the dragon still staring at you. The dragon is smaller than normal, and seems calm, almost tranquil. The voice in your minds echoes through your thoughts. 'Awake, have you? Good. Sorry my poor human speech, it has been foreign to me.'
"What do you want?" You say. You feel like a rabbit under a hound.
'My son cries to you, human. Take him up to guide you, you do.'
"What?"
'What my mate means is that our son is to accompany you on travels,' a rumbling voice behind you says. You turn your head and see the dragon that you guarded against in the tunnel. You shrink away from the huge beast. 'Fear not, little one. We know your heart and your reasons for defending the humans. We are sorry for your predicament. Be at peace.'
The voice in your head agrees. 'Chosen you our son.'
"Your son? The egg?" Both dragon's heads dip in very long nods. "Chose me?" More nods.
The war against the humans drags on. All of the dragons wish for an end, but the human royalty wants to eradicate us. You though, have the power to end this struggle'
"What? What do you mean? How could I do that?" You ask. You then realize that it'll be hard to deny these huge beasts their request.
'We will not make you, but it is in your best interest,' The big dragon says.
"Why do you says that?"
'We know of Human culture. If you return without finishing your task, you will be branded a traitor and executed.'
'To finish task, kill us you'd doing,' the voice in your mind says.
"Good point," You say. The big dragon drops the egg upon the ground near you, and then moves to allow you to exit unhampered.
"Make your choice, human. We will hold nothing against you. Choose."
In your head, you hear a tiny squeak. It sounds like a baby bird.
