"Why does it matter? What will you do? Wh-" you start.
"SILENCE" the mother commanded.
You sit down quickly and listen as the dragon begins to explain how to care for the egg. Surprised at how simple it is, your mind begins to wonder. Though you kept note of some important facts to keep the hatchling well.
1. Be gentle when handling the egg.
2. Keep on your person at all times.
3. When moving carry firmly.
4. Keep warm at all times.
5. Once hatched feed him well.
"But still... Why are you doing this. Isn't this your son? Shouldn't you be the ones taking care of him? Why in the world are you letting me, who need I remind you was part of a group who was going to kill your family, raise him?"
"For one, you told us yourself that you were not harming my family," said the smaller female. "Am I to think that you lied to us?" Quickly shaking your head in the negative, she continued. "We do this because it is to be. Few of our kind know of the rider's ways and fewer still know of the bond they shared. We know this because the rider's are in our blood. Our son's blood. Your blood. The bond that a rider shares with their dragon is unlike any other. We only want the best for our son. Stealing this chance from him will be as if we killed him ourselves. Now you must hurry. These men were more than likely asked to report to a superior once the mission was completed and I doubt they will not investigate why they did not return. You must head West toward the Jupin wood. There you will find our homeland. Remove a scale from my hide and show it to the dragons there. You will be safe."
"But what about you? If they find you here-" The dragonness held up an opal claw to silence you once more.
"Do not worry. We will follow shortly. Do not think that just because you will be bonded with our son means that we will not continue to be his parents. We will continue watching the both of you for as long as we are able."
Satisfied, though still baffled by the events, you agreed and removed a scale and began to prepare to leave. After gathering provisions that the family gratefully provided, you head off into the mountains. You wonder where exactly to go. Jupin wood was quite the walk and, though you weren't sure, there should be a rather large river you would be required to cross. No matter though, you would get there. You began setting off holding the egg, which was quite large, very firmly.
