By noon Heather's encounter with the bug was all but forgotten. Nick wasn't due back at work until next Monday, so the couple had the rest of the week to themselves. As they had lunch in the kitchen, Heather felt a little strange. She sensed that something was different, but she couldn't put a finger on it, so she kept quiet about it.
At about 5PM, Nick and Heather were getting ready for a night out at an exclusive restaurant, followed by a movie. Nick had just finished taking a shower when he heard his wife call out to him.
"Nick, come here. Somethings wrong"
Nick rushed to the bedroom and saw Heather in her bra and panties, holding a blue dress in her hand. "What is it, honey?"
The semi-naked Heather threw the dress on the bed in frustration. "The dress doesn't fit me. It's too big"
"Just pick another one" Nick replied.
"It's the third dress I tried" Heather almost shouted. "They all fit me perfectly just a few days ago. My dress shoes don't fit me either. It's as if I ..." Heather stopped as she looked up at Nick. He seemed taller to her than he was in the morning.
After a few awkward seconds, she continued. "Nick, do you have a tape measure."
Nick nodded, not knowing why she asked.
"Could you get it" Heather answered.
About five minutes later, Nick returned to the living room with the tape. Heather stood on a wall as Nick measured her height with the tape. "Five foot seven and a half inches" he said with surprise. He repeated the measurement, with the same result.
"I shrunk two and a half inches" Heather stated "It must have been that insect that bit me this morning."
Nick looked down and finally realized she was speaking the truth. He was starting to show some concern. "What should we do?"
