"Great!" she smiled. "You'll go far. Tell you what, why don't we try you on inventory? Can you be in at seven tomorrow?"
"S-sure," I stammered, relieved. She could have checked the till roll, then I'd have been done for.
Emily and I got changed into our normal clothes, and we were the last of the staff out the door when she locked up. We walked to the bus stop together, chatting; she had started at the bakery as a part-time job while at university, but she'd dropped out. "I wasn't that into my course," she said, "and I like working there so much more. It's quite good money, and there's the snacks! Of course, it's not done my figure any good."
"I think you look great," I said without thinking, then blushed scarlet. Emily laughed a little awkwardly, and I mumbled a goodbye and headed home.
