With nothing better to do, Eric decided to check out the closet. He figured it was better than just sitting around, staring at the ceiling. He got up off the massive bed onto the cobblestone floor and walked towards the far end of the room.
The closet was made to resemble a dresser, except it was an incredibly wide one, likely meant to compliment the medieval theme, and when it was opened it, it revealed a spacious, walk-in closet inside. Considering the usual guests’ sizes, he wasn’t sure there’d be anything for him, but maybe he could find something cool to wear, amongst all those geeky fashions? He never had much of an interest in RenFairs, but it might be fun to look at least.
He walked towards the wooden double-doors, each one far taller and wider than himself, and opened them to view the costumes hanging on the racks inside. There were several accessories placed in cubbies up above them too, to further complete whatever look they’d be going for. He checked out a few outfits. Among the selection of period clothes as an extra-large Robin Hood costume, one for a fat jester, a fat monk, fat royalty, and many others. There was even an XXL suit of armor for a knight costume, but it didn’t look like there were any he could at his size.
Though he wasn’t super interested anyway, it did seem to be that every costume there was made for men of bigger sizes than he was. It struck him as a bit odd in fact. Thin guys also went to RenFairs, didn’t they? As he inspected the jewelry up at the top, shining in the dimly-lit room, he observed a box that caught his eye, and took it don to look. It was quite large, but surprisingly light, marked as “Padding”. Within it looked like pieces of a fat suit. It suddenly dawned on him that the other guests might not have really been fat, but wore this stuff to make them look that size which…. Wasn’t really any less weird, he thought, as he put it back. Still, if he wanted to wear a costume without it dangling off his body, he might have to use it or otherwise pick the smallest outfit there, which might still be too big for him. He still hadn’t inspected all the costumes too closely, he admitted. There might still be something.
Then again, he still wasn’t especially interested in playing dress-up. He wondered a bit why it even felt a little tempting to him. There had to be something else to do around here, he figured, stepping out of the closet, though his mind continued to be drawn back to the costumes. He wasn’t sure what it was about them, but they seemed to linger in his mind. Eric looked around the room, observing that he’d only taken a cursory glance around it at first. Maybe he should explore it some more? But still…
