"Well, Mr. Murphy, my name is Pamela Wood and I happen to be a casting agent for the show Galaxy Quest!"
Junior's jaw dropped. Galaxy Quest was his all-time favourite show! It was about a teenage girl named Saigon who travelled around the universe with her mother who is a diplomat with the Universal Order of Planets. She usually ended up saving the day, as well as many alliance deals with her swift thinking and awesome fighting skills. And she was, as all TV heroines were, extremely pretty.
"Mr. Murphy, I'm casting for the very first Galaxy Quest movie, and I think you would be perfect for the role of Saigon's love interest!"
"What?" replied Junior. "I thought after Raul, she'd sworn off boys!" (Near the end of the second season, Raul had betrayed Saigon, and she'd spent the third season boyfriendless.)
"Yes, but in the upcoming season she is going to meet someone special, someone utterly different than Raul - Andreas, a Swedish boy who is kind, gentle, fearless, brave, and twice the size of Raul - Saigon will save him, get to know him, and then fall in love with him. We've tried casting boy actors in fat suits, but it just doesn't work - so now we need a big boy to play Andreas. You seem just like how I imagine Andreas - a little geeky, broad-shouldered, fat and strong, blond and boyish, loving comics, cards, food...and costumes. You should come for a screen test - a try-out. You could be a star!"
Junior is blown away. Love-interest for Saigon? TV star? Attractive fat guy? Him? It can't be! Yet here is this woman pulling out a business card and offering him a
screen test!
"Yes!" says Junior, enthusiastic. "Will I get to meet Saigon?"
"Yes, she wants to be at the screen test - to know if she'll get along with her new acting colleague. Well, here, come to this address and time... gotta run now..."
The woman turned and left, leaving Junior with a card. He recognises the address - its the hotel attached to the convention center where the comic convention is - and the date on the card is...
