Rufus the family dog awoke Monday morning, and as usual no one was home but Susan and him. Rufus didn’t mind that though, he knew as soon as he went to the kitchen five bowls of food would be waiting for him.
So as usual he headed to the kitchen first thing, but as he arrived his nose picked up a peculiar scent. As he neared the kitchen it grew stronger until he actually saw what he was smelling. In addition to the usual bowls of food, waiting for him was half of a huge birthday cake!
When ever food in the house wasn’t eaten Rufus got first dibbs on the leftovers, and just yesterday had been Mary’s third birthday. When ever there was a birthday in this house food was overly abundant and there was almost certainly gonna be a huge pile of leftover food. So in a way Rufus had six birthdays a year; one for him plus the birthdays for the other five member of the family.
Accordingly Rufus ravenously but happily stuffed his face into the cake, smearing it all of the ground and his nose. Susan walked over, already aware of what Rufus would do.
“Oh Rufus, your such a hungry doggy.” She said to him smiling; then she started to pet the back of his head gently cooing… “Who’s a good doggy? Who’s a good doggy?”
And of course Rufus loved the extra food and extra loving. He chowed down hungrily on the cake and dog food like he had never eaten before. Susan laughed at the mess he was making, as long as she knew he was gaining weight she was happy; and so was Rufus!
