“I will let you leave, but be assured, the whole city will hear of this!”

That gives you pause. You hesitate in the doorway. With a name as famous as yours, Reputation is everything. Respect is security. Even a hint of weakness could bring your enemies down upon you like vultures, and what could be weaker than fleeing with your tail between your legs from a simple whorehouse? It might be best to nip this rumor in the bud.

“I… meant no offense,” you say evenly. “And I’m sure we can find a way to put this misunderstanding behind us. You are, after all, an honorable woman in a trade built on discretion. And I am a very wealthy man, and generous to my friends. Why don’t I make a gift of a new dress for each of your girls, and we both forget this unpleasantness?”

“No,” says the Mistress.

“No?” you say. “If it’s not dresses you want—“

“I don’t want your dresses,” she says. “I want everything.”

“What?” you demand.

“I said, I want everything. All your land, all your slaves, all your treasure. Every bit of worldly wealth that you call your own. That, and only that, is the price of your reputation, John Lemere. Some would call it a bargain. Will you pay it?”

You have the following choices:

1. Refuse the mad exchange and storm out.

2. Accept the bargain, and trade everything you own for her silence.
