Cute as a button

"You're as cute as a button!" Tommy tells the little cat, and "Whooooops!" it slips from his fingers.

Looking at the floor, Tommy sees that the cat has shrunk -- in fact, it is now a button with eyes and a smiling mouth. "Instead of a Cheshire cat, a button-cat," he thinks, absurdly, remembering Alice in Wonderland.

The other animals are still making a lot of noise. Some of them seem to be clamouring for food.

"Okay, okay," Tommy sighs. He disarms himself, and then says, "Okay, animals, wait, I'll bring you ..."
