You can’t resist, and you click the option.
You hear a gasp from the other side of the phone, and then Linda speaks in an urgent whisper. “What did you do? I’ve got a -- oh, my God, I’ve got a --“
You look down to see that your clothes have changed. Instead of the long-sleeved blouse, slacks, and nondescript flats that you wore out shopping this morning, you have on a vinyl halter top, a vinyl microskirt, thigh-high fishnet stockings, and stiletto-heeled ankle boots. Thanks to this new outfit, you can see that you now have a navel piercing just like the one you imagined on Linda, and the top is even tight enough to see that there are barbells piercing your nipples. You have to readjust the phone on your ear a bit, as it’s resting against some new piercings there.
“Any new additions?” you ask, feeling against the roof of your mouth that you have a tongue stud.
“Oh, my God, and some subtractions,” Lisa says. “My clothes -- I mean, I’m wearing this corset thing that laces all the way up the front -- oh, my God, everyone can see my giant cleavage and --“
“Really?” you ask. You realize you can put the “clothing” layer back on the image of Linda on the computer screen. The top she described does look amazing with her newly enlarged breasts. You notice that she didn’t mention the thigh-high vinyl boots with platform heels.
“Holy shit,” she says, her whisper going even lower. “I have this picture of me and Courtney on my desk, and it’s different -- well, we’re in the same pose, but now we’re both dressed like -- holy -- hang on a sec --“
Courtney is her 18-year-old daughter.
After a few seconds of silence, Linda comes back on the line to report, “The guys are normal, but every woman in my office is dressed like -- I don’t know, slutty or Goth or whatever you call it -- and they’ve all got these piercings, like I do. What the hell did you do?”
You’ve figured out what the program must have done -- it made fetishy body piercings “normal and accepted” by changing things so that all women’s dress in fetishy styles, their clothing and shoes in addition to their jewelry.
“They’re all acting like nothing's different, though, right?” you ask.
“Uh, I guess,” said Linda. “Although -- oh, jeez --“
“What?”
“The head of my department just walked by in some kind of chain mail bikini thing. And she’s like, uh, 60 years old and not exactly thin.”
That’s something you hadn’t considered in the rush of excitement. You turn to the Reality Manipulation software to try to fix the problem.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
