A New Goddess

"Lexi! You okay?"

You slowly walk throughout Lexi's house, attempting to locate the scarlet-scaled dragoness. As usual, you'd let yourself in through the human sized door with the emergency key.

You'd been worried lately. Despite hours of research online, nothing you had found had helped to explain Lexi's shifting behaviour, nor her slow and steady growth. And today, Lexi had stopped answering the phone. You had quickly settled into a routine of calling in the morning and evening to check that Lexi was okay, and she had always answered. What if something had happened to her?

Her behaviour had been slowly changing throughout the week, as well. You couldn't pinpoint exactly what was different, but you felt uneasy around her. It was if something was doing a remarkably good impression of Lexi, only you were aware that it was an impression. As if something was using her; wearing her.

As you slowly move throughout the white walled and beige carpeted corridor, you begin to feel as if something is watching you.

These suspicions are quickly proven correct, as you feel and see yourself being lifted into the air by a pair of powerful crimson scaled hands.

"Damnit Lexi, don't do that! You know it makes me jump! At least ask first!"

Twisting round, in Lexi's grip, you immediately realise something is wrong. Lexi appears perfectly normal - her red scales, draconic muzzle, black t-shirt and denim shorts all in order - until you look at her eyes.

Gone were the green pupilled orbs that you'd grown accustomed to over so many years of close friendship. Replacing them, were two blazing golden lights, so intense that you screw your eyes shut instead of looking at them. This was not the Lexi you knew.

Not-Lexi begins to speak. Her voice sounded like Lexi's mixed with the soft tones of a wind chime.

"Ah... Human? You desire answers, correct? There is much to discuss; come."

You are gently placed back on the floor, a large talon scratching the top of your head. Following Not-Lexi into the living room, you take a seat on the sofa while keeping your eyes on Not-Lexi.

"As I said, there is much to discuss. You are aware of the recent... Odd... Behaviour of this body?"
You nod, prompting Not-Lexi to continue.
"Roughly a week ago by your standards, the one you know as Lexi started acting strangely. This was due to my consciousness being drawn into her body. I do not know why or how this happened, but it happened nontheless. I cannot find any way to sugarcoat this, human, but for now, Lexi is gone."

You raise an eyebrow. "For now?"

Not-Lexi nods her massive head. "I was able to create... I believe you would call it a 'backup', of Lexi's personality. Currently, it has no body to inhabit, and is in a dormant state. It was fortunate that I created a backup when I did, as... My personality's arrival into this body completely overpowered Lexi's personality. The original Lexi was, essentially, absorbed."

The words hit you like a punch to the gut. Lexi... absorbed?

"Fear not, mortal. The duplicate personality is an exact duplicate. All the memories, feelings, and more; everything that made the original Lexi who she was, has been saved for a later date."

You fidget. "Why later? Can't you just, I don't know, leave her body?"

Not-Lexi shakes her head sadly. "I am afraid that I cannot at the current moment in time, human. I have more urgent matters to attend to-"

Before you can respond, the crimson dragon is cut off by a series of powerful shudders, before she begins to bulge larger, gaining a foot in height in a few mere seconds, and then another after that! Not-Lexi quickly shivers out of the growth spurt as your jaw hangs open.

"As you can see, this body is still growing exponentially. Mortal bodies were never made to contain the power of gods and goddesses... Speaking of which, I do hope you can pardon my manners. I am the goddess Chayla."

Chayla shifts in the now comparatively smaller chair before continuing.

"I have reason to believe that this particular growth spurt; rather, that is, this series of growth spurts... Will never stop."
