Conner was nervous. So far he had been very comfortable with his new job. There was some challenge but not too much challenge. It wasn't boring and he certainly wasn't going to miss any meals. Still, getting summoned to the big boss's office was more than he had expected. His immediate supervisor had assured him that the boss liked to meet all the employees. It was just an opportunity to meet him and to feel welcome.
"Conner Grand to see Mr. Bellsky." he announced nervously to the receptionist.
"Go right on in." she chirped. "His expecting you."
As Conner moved to the door a massive man darted out of the office and grabbed his hand with a vigorous shake.
"Glad to meet you, young man." he said, continuing to shake his hand as he led him into the office and guided him to a couch in the corner.
"Call me Bill." he said taking a seat on an adjacent lovesest which his wiade ass completely filed. "We are not big on formality around here. Just one big happy family."
"So Conner," he continued. "How are we doing on your first day? Any questions, compaints, issues?'
Conner shook his head.
"No, sir." he said. "everything seems perfect."
Bill nodded his head solumly. "Glad to hear it. We want everyone in out little family to be happy."
Conner was mesmorized at the roll of fatbetween Bill's face and chest - in the place where most people might have a neck.
Bill darted out of his chair over to a side table.
}Pardon me." he said. "I didnt offer you someting to eat. You must be missing your break and I know how important good nutrition is for getting work done. Bill offered a plate of filled donuts and when Conner took one, Bill placed it on the table. He darted away again and returned with a large cappuchino and a napkin. Then he snuggled down on the loveseat again.
"Eat up. You need more than one. That's better."
Bill talked about the company all the while encouraging Conner to have another donut. Ten minute later the donuts were gone, Conner had drained the cappuchino and found himself ushered out the door with another hearty handshake.
"Stop in any time. young man."
Back at his desk, Darren grinned.
"Met the old man?" he asked. Conner nodded.
"Did he push donuts on you?" Conner nodded again.
"That means he likes you. Not that it much matters. Bill's just a pretty face. His wife's the real power around here. Still it's good to keep him happy. So long as you eat his food, he's going to like you."
"Bill's not my idea of pretty."
"Maybe not now but five years ago when he married Joan, he was the hottest male fashion model in the world. We aren't supposed to remember and Bill sure doesn't want it spread around. Joan has Bill on a diet. He has to eat whatever she orders. She's got something on him for sure but no one knows what it is. Anyway about the only way Bill can control his eating is when he gets someone else to eat it for him. It doesn't help much as you can see but I guess Bill gets some small comfort at getting some control."
