The police surrounded a building that was being held up by armed gunmen. Doctor Sivana was rumoured to be behind it. When Mary Batson heard about it on a radio, she went to a secluded location, and said the word:
"Shazam!"
And she was transformed into mighty Mary Marvel! Mary flew up into the air, and traveled toward the downtown area where the hold-up was in progress. When she landed in front of the business, armed gunmen opened fire on her with machine guns, but the bullets just bounced harmlessly off her.
Mary grabbed the machine guns from the suspects, and twisted them up into useless gobs of metal, and tossed them aside. "Sivana, I know you're behind this!" she said, and a large door slid open to reveal doctor Sivana sitting in a chair behind a large ray-gun cannon.
"Your problems are just beginning!" Sivana told her, and fired at her with the ray-gun cannon. Instantly, Mary Marvel began to grow. She was soon breaking through the ceiling, until she stood about 30 feet high. Sivana fired at her again, and she grew again, until her head broke through the roof of the two-story building she had been standing inside of. Mary was so large now, that when she tried to step away from the building, she crushed the whole section of the building facing the street.
Mary was at least 70 feet tall now. When she peeked through the hole in the roof to see if Sivana was all right, he fired the ray-gun cannon at her a third time, causing her to grow to a height of 200 feet!
