Chapter #2

My life as a curvy teenage robot?

Robots, love ‘em or fear ‘em, there is no denying that when it comes right down to it, robots are just plain cool. Still, despite how far technology has come, there are really only a handful of robots so far that have artificial intelligence. However, among that small group, one robot, or should I say teenage girl, defines what it means to be awesome with her weaponry, strength, and above else, a quirky sense of humor and a kind spirit.

That girl is Jenny XJ9. Not only has she saved the world many times over, but she thinks and acts just like any teenage human would. Of course, she isn’t human, which means that there are plenty of things she must learn from the human world that can’t simply be programmed by her mom. Today is no exception as right now at Tremorton High, Jenny is once more trying to avoid being alone on a Friday night.

As she stuffed some of her books in her locker, her smile briefly dropped as she shut the door and prepared for what came next. No matter how boring or challenging her classes could be, she’d gladly take all of them ten times a day rather than this, because this was the one subject in school she was completely bombing. Actually, Jenny wished this was a class, because she could seriously use some pointers.

“Hi, I’m Jenny, but you probably…knew…that.” Her smile dropped once more and she just slouched as she watched the boy just walk by without even looking at her. Fortunately, another good looking guy soon came by in the opposite direction and she cast out her line again “Hey there, I hear there’s this new…movie.” While she wondered if her bait was dead, a third boy came down the hall, and now she tried being blunt so she stood in front of him, held him by the shoulders and said “You, me, this Friday night, what do you say?” to which the guy promptly ran screaming down the hall. Jenny just hung her head in shame for being such a failure in the dating game, when all of a sudden, someone actually called out to her “Jenny,”

DINNER? A MOVIE? I’D LOVE TO!...Oh, it’s you Brad.” Her smile vanished as she saw that it was just her friend and neighbor. He then sarcastically said to the rude robot “Sorry to disappoint.” She then apologized once she slumped back up against her locker “I’m sorry. I’m just getting so sick of striking out when it comes to dating.”

“I know the feeling.” Brad said as he did as his friend did. For once, he didn’t try and play it off like he was total ladies man, even though Jenny knew he wasn’t. She needed someone to be there for her, and even if she didn’t, he wouldn’t have felt like keeping up that façade anyway, since he’d just been shot down himself.

“What is it about me Brad?” she asked, standing a few steps before him before she continued “Am I ugly? Do I smell? Do I need to save the world more? Because I honestly feel like I’m doing all that I can to attract a date. I even had Sheldon repair and install my nerve endings under my skin so I could feel. See?!” by that point, she had caused her metal skin to push off of her skeleton, and seeing the insides of someone, whether they be man or machine was always disturbing, which is why everyone screamed and ducked into a room, leaving Brad and Jenny alone, and the latter of the two, as she pulled herself back together, realizing what a freak she just made herself look like.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, easy Jen. First of all, you are easily the hottest robot I know. Second, you smell like a new car, and third, saving the world has nothing to do with this problem. I hate to break it to you Jen, but not all guys are like me.” Brad finished with a smile. However much like his friend earlier, that was quickly lost when Jenny asked the obvious question “What?”

“Uh, bythatImeanI…you’re robot stuff! You know transforming and all that? I’m used to that kind of stuff, but I don’t think anyone else is.” Brad managed to say. Jenny’s quizzical look went away as she saw his point. Seeing her down once more, Brad then said “So uh, you still wanna see a movie?”

“Sure, why not?” he heard her say. “Really?” and then Brad heard her say “Something tells me I’m going to be dateless for a long time. At least I have a friend like you.” The depressed robot girl walked off, knowing her good buddy would follow her. First though, Brad said “Yeah, a friend,” and then opened the locker door and proceeded to slam it into his face before he fell over.

Soon enough, those two walked into the cafeteria and Jenny was still trying to solve her problem “There’s got to be another reason Brad, something else besides a little normality that any single guy is looking for. Tell me Brad, what do guys like?” Her friend then pointed out “No way, last time you asked me that, you zapped me for being too, as you put it ‘graphic’.” Jenny however pointed out “Hello! You brought in a ‘magazine’ as a visual aid!” Brad came back with “To help you!”

Annoyed, Jenny just buried her eyes in her hand. She didn’t buy that explanation for a second, but at the same time, she knew she had to listen to Brad, no matter how offended she might get as a girl. Sighing, she said “Fine, remind me again what you said?”

“Well Jenny, every guy wants a different kind of woman, but for high-schoolers, there are three main features they normally look for. A girl needs to be tall,” he started, much to Jenny’s joy as she said “I’m 6ft. and a half.” Then he added “nice,” and she said “I’m sweet as sugar!” Finally he said “and most of all, curvy” after gesturing with his hands, Jenny said “I…I…I…” she just formed a mirror out of her hand to look at herself.

“My gosh, look at me. I’m like a walking pincushion. The only round part of me is my head. Any specific places guys want girls to be round?” Jenny asked. Any means to make the solution simpler would be welcomed, but if Jenny had to turn herself into a huge ball, she would if it got her a guy.

“Oh you know, hips, waist, boobs and butt.” Brad counted off with his fingers. He soon had the hum of a huge laser canon in his ears and one directly above his head as an enraged robot girl threatened him “Brad,”

“It’s the truth, I swear!” he shouted, and upon which, Jenny removed her weapon. Brad however was still leaning back in fear, and the two shared an awkward silence before he said “Uh, I’m gonna grab some lunch,” and dashed away.

Jenny just found a spot to sit and brought out a can of oil to drink from inside her stomach. She just sipped as she pondered how a robot like her could become curvier. Looking over at some examples, she saw Teresa, one of the popular, snobby, and therefore curvy girls being fed cake by her boyfriend, Sebastian.

All of a sudden, Jenny’s eyes lit up as inspiration struck her “That's it!”
