Chapter #4
exchanging greetings
by: katie
You bravely without a word to the captain, follow him up the poorly built stairs. Three steps up, you turn and look at Thomas, his worried countance, with a glance of apology before continuing.
He's waiting for you where you had stood to watch the ship approach. You step up next to him and continue by his side with him into the sunlight that hurts your eyes, causing you to blink several times and squint.
A lone man is standing on the deck.
You swallow, and call out, "What is it that you want?"
He starts and peers intently at hearing a woman's voice.
You remain motionless waiting for a reply, allowing him to get over his shock. "What is it that you want?" you repeat when he doesn't answer.
"Who are you?" a harsh, but faintly gentile did answer.
You hold your head up with family pride, "I am the daugher of the owner of this ship, and who are you and what is the purpose of your ship in hindering my father's ship in it's journey to America?"
"I am Hugo of the BlackLonder's Ship, he replied. We wish to board your ship."
You notice the captain who has yet to speak has begun to look worried perhaps at your boldness, your defiance, his lack of authority in this exchange, or perhaps at the entire situation.
