This choice: Bill goes home, convinced it was a bad dream • Go Back...
Chapter #7
Restless Night
by: Sheelawolf
Bill looked around at the crowd, chest heaving from the exertion of the chase. He could tell there was no way to convince them that he was telling the truth. Honestly, he wasn't sure either. Maybe all that work on his yard that day had gotten to him, or maybe he was in the middle of some horrible nightmare. He nodded quietly and turned away, leaving his ax with Fred and Polly. He doubted they'd let him have it back.
When he got home, he climbed into bed, not even bothering to change his clothes. He was exhausted from the yard work and running, but he didn't sleep for another hour. He was too busy trying to work out just how harmful that radioactive fertilizer could be to his health. He'd been using that brand for some time now. If it was affecting his yard and the vermin in his shed now, could it affect him badly in the future?
Finally he sank into an uneasy sleep and didn't wake up until late the next day. In fact, when he opened his eyes and looked at his clock, he found it was noon. He turned his eyes to the windows only to discover that the grass had grown to cover them all over again. With a groan, he got out of bed. He was sore all over. No way he was taking the yard on again today.
