I'm done. I've had it! Today was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day meets The Twilight Zone. When I woke up this morning, it was just like yesterday and the day before. Nothing seemed amiss. When I went to buy fodder for my cows, however, things began to change. I went into the feed store and ordered my supplies, as usual. I got a cheery, "Good morning, Harry!" from Joe, the clerk. It's nice to be known. Then I began to list the items I expected to purchase. I was just getting started when I was interrupted. "I'm sorry, Harry, but that's the last straw," Joe said, pointing to another customer who was just walking out the door. "We won't have another order in until the weekend." "Thanks, anyway," I said. "I'll just take the rest of my order and come back Friday." Joe bagged everything up and sent me on my way. I stopped for lunch at the local diner and couldn't wait for my sweet tea. As Norma, the waitress, placed my glass in front of me, she said, "Sorry, Harry, but that was the last straw." I couldn't believe it! How could a restaurant run out of straws! I thanked her anyway and tried to enjoy my lunch, but I felt lost, dining without a straw. I took a deep breath and tried to get over it but things reached the heighth of strange when I stopped by the western store. Do you know what the clerk there told me? "I'm sorry, sir, I know you wanted to buy a new hat, but that customer over there just bought the last straw." That was my last straw. |
