You know, when I was younger, in the mid '70's, I was crazy about wanting to publish. I was part of a group in Pittsburgh, and everyone wanted to. So, we all gathered to read and one by one, this certain circle of friends began to really publish. I would like to give an A+ to Little Presses, for giving writers a start and a field and range of writing that no other publishing market does. The Directory Of Little Presses and others like it, roll off page to page with great little press. One such young man, Michael Wurster, now a little older, has published his second book, called the Snake Charmer's Daughter by Elemenope Publications recently. Richard Dillon says about this friend, "Michael Wurster works one side of the street and then you see him working the other, then both sides of the street simultaneously, brick by celluloid film snippet by patient breath." Others, I really loved have published too.
I myself didn't take it seriously enough at that time. Now, that I have some three hundred poems to which I have offered at writing.com., I am thinking maybe Little Press may be the way to go. You look for the subject, the type of audience, the time of season a particular press publishes, and if it pays in copies or cash payment. I have loved Lyn Lyfshin, one among many women, who has tilt-a-whirled the Little Press Business, making it classic and even at times, unforgettable. Will I publish? Who knows, I'll have to do my homework first.
