Oh, Zib, yes, it would have been glorious to have been born in 1885!!! You would love, love, love "Quilters". I thought of you the whole time when I saw it. You said that it was at HC a few years ago? I vow to someday be in that marvelous play! You would have been perfect in it. There was one sassy, stubborn, heastrong role and you would have fit it like a glove! Oh, yeah, scarlet fever is extremely contagious! That's why my grandma had to burn all her belongings. There was no real cure for it back in the 30s. I'm so spoiled; I think of burning all my possessions and I'm horrified! After seeing "Quilters", though, I'm not sure I would have liked to have been born in the pioneer days. Yeesh, those were tough, tough times. But they also seem so rewarding. Can you imagine building your very own log cabin, windmill, getting milk and eggs, squash and beans from your own farm? I saw a house under quarantine in Eureka awhile ago! I was out jogging and I passed a house that had a sign on the door reading, "This house under strict quarantine due to deadly disease". I was so excited, actually, because I felt like I was back in the 1800s! I wonder what illness the house had in it?! SARS? Some new disease? It fascinates me. |
