I'm making a career change into teaching math, and one of my required courses to do so was Differential Equations, a truly hellish perverted mathematics class I took last semester. One day, while sitting in class learning about how an imaginary number influences the oscillation of a spring (don't ask), I had an idea for the novel that I've been working on, so I just couldn't help myself -- I had to write. As the professor was going on and on in front of the class differentiating equation after equation on the chalkboard, and all of the other students were madly scribbling to figure it out, I sat there working on a composition more suited to a Literature or Creative Writing course. I think it's safe to say that I might have been the only non left-brained thinker in that class.
Incidentally, I still somehow managed to get a B in that class despite all of my daydreaming. Thank goodness for small miracles....
