"Nassy-bad" is from a Booth Tarkington novel. He was a Hoosier and wrote about Indiana (he wrote The Royal Tenenbaums -- have you seen either of the films?). Mom read a bit of one of his novels aloud to me and I picked up on the silly phrase. He's a delightful writer; I should read some of his stuff myself. It's a definite attrantion, of course, that he was from Indiana.
Your mum needed to work, as in, you needed the money? The only reason my sibs and I never went to daycare is that we took out student loans -- which we only just finished paying off -- which enabled us to just barely squeak by. So Mum stayed at home with us kids. I'm glad she did; I would've hated to go to daycare or (horrors) school just because both my parents needed to work.
