Understood, and those are good points. We were just thinking that since "draft" and "outline" are listed as sub-types in the static item list, "work in progress" might also be helpful for people who want readers to know right away that they aren't finished with the piece. "Draft" makes us think of a piece that is finished but very rough, and "outline" states that the author is just writing down the framework.

Unfortunately, quite a few people don't put "WIP" in the brief description or at the beginning. That would be good if they would do that, simply so people will know if the piece will be a complete one before they start reading. They can edit the piece later to put it in a different sub-type once it's completed. We know that when authors set items on "accept ratings," they are looking for feedback, but as readers, we would like to know ahead of time if a long story will have an ending. That's just us, though, and again, the "work in progress" sub-type was only a suggestion. We understand if it's not possible, or if it's considered to be unnecessary by the staff.
