update on weekly goal: 27/01- 31/01

As 29/01 was the Year of the Snake, I have been celebrating by catching lots of them on Pokemon Go.

Doing Professor Oak's homework did intrude a little on my plans though.

I wrote a scene of 544 words, not three drafts of the entire scene as I hoped for.

What did I manage to do?

It's a girl being fired from a waitressing job ---------- NO- in the extract this hasn't happened yet
Third person (limited perspective -hers) ---------------YES
language is fairly plain, colloquial ------ MAYBE
dialogue and fragments of detail. ------- MAYBE
the focus will be on reactions and actions, consequences ---- NOT REALLY.
i will spill into melodrama for sure. Maybe a future edit will curb that - fingers crossed. --- YES.

she got the job from a card on a noticeboard in her dorm --- I got interested in her other attempts to make money - good or bad and the people she met.

the girl is getting by with help from her parents, but she feels guilty - MAYBE - i am working on hinting at this. It's funny, but when I try to imagine these situations remembering series or films gives me more material to tap into the emotions, more so than my own experiences.

to establish the character dynamic between the three characters - YES -working on it
rich bf/poor gf --- YES -working on it
disapproving mother - YES working on it
high society/ everyday life -- NO, but I so want this to be there in the background
to create an up-against it underdog vibe - NO - maybe this is cliche

Structure: to start with the first big mistake, move onto the consequences,
and end in the dismissal - cigarettes or something outside with bf - shared moment. - NO. I haven't done any of this. i just set the scene. The characters are not fleshed out in my mind yet.

I guess I should make next weeks goals about exploring the characters in situations and their reactions to see what happens next.

I started reading Volkhavaar by Tanith Lee. It might take some time as I am reading it in Spanish. On chapter 2 and it is fun. *ThumbsUp*
