I will say that this arc definitely worsened my opinion of Marc as a person, given how willing he was to mug somebody he’s been friends with for so long. I honestly had the impression he was a better dude than that.

In all fairness in the other section of this branch, Marc is willing to deceive his girlfriend by having Will pretend to be him with her (where they get intimate while she thinks that the guy she's with is her boyfriend) while he fucks around at the Warehouse under a girl's mask. He also knows that Laurent and Will grabbed a mask of Jessica and asks Will to impersonate her. You can also say that he's still in the afterglow of what he and Hannah did the day before. Marc's generally a decent guy but he's still a hormone driven high schooler so he's probably thinking more with his dick at the moment than his brain.

You also have to think that in plenty of branches Will is more than willing to use this stuff on his own friends as well and yet we don't feel disappointed when, say, he's willing to replace Yumi and trap her under a mask of himself and get her into a relationship with a drug dealing scumbag simply because Chelsea wants him to.

Alternately, it just wasn't something that came to mind when I wrote it.

But there's also another factor and it's that, again, Hannah hasn't ever been much of the focus of anything. By contrast, Stephanie has been the focus of things quite a lot so perhaps readers are more immediately inclined to be sympathetic towards her because we've gotten her side of things a lot. So it becomes easy for the readers to view Hannah as just some skank who showed up one day and stole away the guy Stephanie liked and is trying to take over the the soccer team from her friend and is thus somebody who deserves to be knocked down a peg.

But it's easy to flip that around too. Stephanie could have tried to make a move on Marc at any time, tell him how she feels, ask him out and all that but she never did. She just stood around pining and then got mad when someone else made a move on him while she was busy doing nothing. Again, we don't really have much in the way of what sparked the rivalry between Anita and Hannah and/or why Hannah's trying to take over. Maybe it's in what I wrote in that other but I'd have to go back to read it and I'm almost wondering if it might be a good idea making it non-canon.

And again, we already know that the two of them and their friends are hatching a scheme to try and humiliate Hannah in a very public way to get back at her. So from an alternative/outside perspective, Stephanie and Anita just come off as extremely petty. They're butthurt that this new girl came in, stole their thunder and "stole" things that they—for no good reason—felt entitled to, which means that they're going to make sure that this impertinent tramp knows her place. Let's not forget that Stephanie is usually a bitch to Will and even at her best tends to treat him like a moron who can at least be tard wrangled instead of the dismissive contempt she usually shows him. From that perspective, then, you almost wonder why we should ympathize with them because they come off as pretty rotten.

I guess it's easy to split the soccer team and its related drama into Anita/Stephanie good, Hannah bad because we've mostly gotten one side of it. But in thinking about it I don't like the idea of there being a clear good guy/bad guy split; it's a situation that's more interesting if it's murkier and gray. You can find things that make you sympathize with each side as well as dislike each side. So it might be interesting to see it from the other side. Which doesn't mean Hannah's a saint or that anything she's doing here can't go wrong or be objectionable.
