"Note: Watcher's Fate: A LitRPG Adventure by Sean..." Watcher's Fate -- Book 3 in the Life in Exile series by Sean Oswald. 678 pages and 20 hrs and 38 mins. This series is a bit confusing because Audible lists 4 books in the Life in Exile series and 2 books in the New Home series, but Amazon lists all 6 books in the Life in Exile series. I'll likely consider all 6 in the Life in Exile series so I can easily count them for April. lol Though I guess since I'd be reading 2 in each series, they would still officially count. I've already listened to the 1st 2 in December on the way to California from Alabama (36 hr drive) and finished the 2nd book and listened to much of the 3rd one on the way back, finishing that 3rd book today. This book is starting to reveal more about Dave, the father of the family who have been forced into a portal that took them to a gaming-style universe. On the good side, his wife, Emily, finally understands why Dave enjoyed gaming so much back on Earth. On the bad side, his power is starting to go to his head in their new home and he's not only becoming arrogant, but he's drawn the notice of some evil forces. The author does a good job of showing us the changes in Dave without going to heavy on them. He's still wavering back and forth between realizing he's changing and not so much, or worse, thinking it's a good thing because he's worthy. We see definite character progression in each book, but it's not always in a positive direction. For the most part, his family seems to be becoming better people, especially his kids. But he's starting to let his power go to his head and his wife doesn't appreciate the changes she's seeing. I'm not making this sound very interesting, but it is a good book. I've enjoyed all 3 books in this series so far. They are definitely long, but when I'm driving, it's not a big deal at all. Now that I'm back home, I will likely get through the rest more slowly. Though I have a nearly 30 minute drive to my new practicum site starting on the 13th, so that will be almost an hr of driving each day. That will help me slowly chip away at the next book in the series. Anyway, if you like the LitRPG subgenre of fantasy/sci-fi, I recommend this book series. I'm enjoying it. |
