As for your question, I've certainly benefited from having both audiences of readers AND listeners for my writing over the years. Personal friends will tend more to avoid direct criticism, I guess, especially if they aren't writers themselves, whereas on sites like this, we're all in it together, so to speak, so you could maybe expect something a tad more objective. I'd also advise offering as many reviews to others as possible yourself, that's one of the best ways to build friendships here. I think you've really chosen well in coming to WdC so enjoy!
