Reading books is only a small part. Practice. Use people with knowledge. Read other examples. Don't just read "how to" books: read all books. See how the rules are used in practice, in the real world, and how those rules can be broken at the same time. Attend classes - online, in-person - and ask questions of the instructors. Places like WdC where people who know what they are doing can help. Beta readers. Editors. And, no, why on earth would you check work with ChatGPT? PWA? Grammarly, which I have had some experience with, is useless for fiction; why use that to check? Why use AI? Are you saying an electrician should use ChatGPT to check the house is wired properly? ChatGPT - the same programme that told pregnant women that doctors recommend they smoke cigarettes during their pregnancy? The same programme that thinks Australia is smaller than Texas? The same programme that thinks 9.11 is a bigger number than 9.9? Sorry. You can use what you want. Go for it. But this thread is about brushing up on grammar and punctuation, not trusting a machine to do it for you. If that is your choice, it is your choice. |
