A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
I think I posted to the assignment log wrong. I just wrote the assignment for #19...I think I might have hit 20. Wait never mind, just checked the log all is well! Sorry for the christmas item before halloween! It's just that is the most amazing time of year in New Mexico so of course I had my setting story take place there. "Chanda's House at Christmas" |
Are you sure or just guessing? I can let Brandiwynš¶ know. Is there something we need to adjust from the technical side of things? Queen NormaJean 2023 Quill Finalist. 2023 Quill Nominee. Quill Finalist Logo 2022 . Quill Nominee Signature 2022 Preferred Author |

Isn't that what Hannibal from the A-Team always said? I looooved watching that show as a kid. True story: last year in New York, gathering my balls and entering a police precinct in Staten Island to ask them what hurricanes Irene & Sandy did to their station & part of the borough (research for overhauling Novel 2 & 3 in the series). They really took the time to answer my questions! And while they did, a guy looking like Mr. T come alive in camouflage entered the place, and greeted the other officers (so he was off-duty). Then me. I answered he'd look so hot. He gaped at me , too. And I said that with watching the TV-show. He relaxed, grinned flattered, then sized me up and said: "German missy, you don't look old enough to have watched the A-Team as a kid." (I'm 41.) Me: "Your mama raised a well-mannered boy. Hope Mrs. T. appreciates it." He grinned and nodded. The other cops laughed. Dude, that was close. Could've ended different. American cops are considered quite... humorless over on the Old Continent. Anyway, "Officer T" made such an impression on me, that he entered last year's NaNo-novel as Luther "Sarge T" Bailey, an acquaintance / colleague of MMC Vince. And I worked the dialogue above into the chapter, too. Babble mode out. SORRY! |
I'm legit impressed with the level of research you put into your work. Hotels in NYC are NOT cheap. Cheers, Michelle Battywyn |
Oh, in Staten Island they are, Brandiwynš¶ . B&B room with boxspring bed, actual duvet (hate the sheets you Yanks sleep in; feels like sleeping in a straight jacket to a European), attached kitchen (with functioning/usable kitchen gear), NO bed bugs, sterile clean bath, a breakfast by the host in which's face some of expensive hotels in Manhattan would pale with envy... for 80 $ / night. BUT: I wasn't there for research primarily ā for that NYC is really too expensive ā but to celebrate my 40th birthday. The research just kind of did itself... making me explore places I never would've (Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island) if it wasn't for my novel series. New York beyond Manhattan and Brooklyn is DEFINITELY worth a visit, or two, or twenty (the city is BIG!) |
