A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
As I sit down to work on Day 3's Protagonist profile, I wanted to throw a few other ideas out there for people strugging to figure out character traits/behaviors, etc. While they may have dubious validity and efficacy for some, I think they're great ideas for looking at character development! The first is figuring out a character's star chart. This requires someone who understands a lot about astrology, but I gave oldest kiddo some general ideas of who my characters were, as I was working on editing Like It or Not, and they #1--helped me figure out what made the most sense, astrologically, based on what I already knew, and #2--created full charts, giving me far more depth of detail than I had before. This all allowed me to understand more clearly how they'd act or react in a particular scenario. The second is figuring out a character's MBTI. Whether you believe in the validity of the designations, they can be great for figuring out how a character would act/react in a particular scenario. I watched a series recently where they really leaned into the idea, and the director explained that he used MBTI actively in crafting the characters. I'm excited to try this, as I prep my characters! https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test Amy G. Dalia logo Amy Pittel Author Services 2023 Quill Nominee |
Good ideas! I usually pick an MBTI preference for my characters. It helps me a lot. |
