I need to brush up on my grammar and punctuation, but I need something readable and reliable. The Chicago Manual of Style is a reference book. I'll never be able to get much info out of it. It's too dry and dreary. Strunk and White is short, but its so boring it puts me to sleep. I need something between the two. Dreyer's English looks pretty good, but it seems he thinks a comma splice and a run-on sentence are the same thing. They are not. The Sense of Style by Pinker was very good. But I don't need to reread it.
Any suggestions on something that is not a mountain of cold facts so dry that they will slip away between my fingers, but not soooooo simple it puts me to sleep?
Thank you.
