What is a scene here? A scene is supposed to be one action in place involving characters.
What is a sequel here? A sequel is a piece of work that follows on directly from a previous, yet separate, piece of work. I have been writing for a while, and have not come across that use of the word sequel before. And separating sequel in this sense and scene does not make sense to me.
Using a flashback in a story is fine way of setting things and tone without info-dumping and without using a prologue.
Now, Stephen King says flashbacks show weak writing (but he also says adverbs shouldn't be used when he uses them all the time), and yet Holly uses flashbacks to the last days with her uncle and days with her mother, both of whom are dead. They do not drag on, but are used to inform the story as it happens and are introduced organically.
A flashback of a whole chapter is probably pushing the envelope, though.
Anyway, on flashbacks, that's just my tuppence worth.
