Thanks for the review. I do remember when Britain gave back Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China. There was a lot of build up to it, and it was covered a lot in the news over here. But, as you say, not a lot actually changed (at least, not for us). It felt similar to the build up before the millennium, and how everyone thought technology might go crazy. But it didn't. Anyway, this book sounds like it might be too tough-going for me. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. Is the sequel written after the handback?
