A Day of Shadows In the morning light, the world stood still, Burning buildings, a sky filled with ill. Screams echoed through the concrete canyons, Death and destruction, a city’s companions. Alone on the couch, tears streamed down, A heart heavy with sorrow, a soul about to drown. Yearning for family, to hold them tight, In the face of chaos, seeking the light. Children came home, their eyes filled with fear, Rooms became sanctuaries, shedding silent tears. A call unanswered, a heart in despair, Dinner forgotten, lost in the air. Scenes on the screen, a loop of pain, Over and over, the horror remained. After supper, a game of cards, Trying to mend the day’s deep scars. School canceled, a night to heal, Tucking kids in, the love was real. Ed on the couch, knowing the need, For closeness, for comfort, a silent creed. God bless America, in this time of healing, A nation united, in sorrow and feeling.
