I love Jeremy Irons's voice too. It's so smooth and rich. At least you got to listen to him for a while, even though the story wasn't all that good.

I've never read any Paulo Coelho. I've heard a few people saying they love this book, but I never really knew what it was about. I don't think it would be for me, based on your description. I like well-defined characters. It also sounds like the story is quite predictable. Yeah. I think I'll give it a miss.
