Re: Does anyone still drive a Standard?

A late answer, perhaps, but .... I always loved driving a standard. Have had several over the years but none lately.

I learned on a "three-on-the tree manual transmission" '71 Ford Maverick. My brother took me out in the sticks and leaving me there to get home by myself. Probably lost two years of life off that transmission by the time I got home.

I also had a '66 Volkswagen Fastback standard from '78-'81 in Germany that I learned to shift without using the clutch. You could hear/feel the engine at just the right speed and slip to the next gear without the clutch.

The good ol' days.

A revised Sig for white background.
