I found the storyline in BG3 to be rather uninspiring. It might have been perfectly fine a decade and a half ago, but the modern CRPGs with the best stories (such as Pillars of Eternity or Disco Elysium) are much cleverer and more grown up. There's also a bit too much pandering to fans of the original games - and I say this as someone who played them very thoroughly back when they first came out.
Don't get me wrong: Technically its a very good game. The encounter balance is great. There's significantly more interaction between your abilities and the environment that similar games. The actor performance is exellent.
But I think Larian might have been better served coming up with their own D&D IP rather than resurecting a series that been brought to perfectly satidfactory conclusion over two decades ago
