Goosebumps (various) by R.L. Stine. These books are just the right length for a boring weekend (it only takes a day or two to finish one). The author has created a wide variety of monsters and nightmarish situations for his characters to be in. His trademark twist at the end of every book does indeed fulfill the name of his series by giving you "goosebumps". Interestingly some of the books are related as a mini series such as The Night of the Living Dummy 1-3.
